Lindsay Bardwil is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Montauk, New York. Born and raised in Manhattan before moving to the easternmost end of Long Island where she now resides full time. Now surrounded by the sea, her work is primarily inspired and is a reflection of the quietude and peace of her environment. Her surroundings are not only her inspiration but her closest collaborator – the majority of her works feature collected natural elements, foraged and carefully selected by the artist herself. All of her work is also created outside where she feels most energetically connected to her inner voice. Her broad range of work includes reflections on the abstract, surreal and expressionist disciplines of artistic endeavor.
Bardwil’s pieces are an exploration of our human self and the desire to exist harmoniously with the world that surrounds us. Her use of natural elements brings together rough, natural materials and translates the beauty of the earth – the miniscule, the grand, the ever shifting noticeable evolution of our effects – into our cultural conversation through her artwork. These collected items, including stones, sand and shells, are transformed into idyllic omens of the fleeting nature of our environment. Bardwil dares to remind us that the peace & comfort we find in the environment is a temporary one due to the nature of our modern existence. Her work is a reminder that this peace exists, if only for a moment, if only at once, and asks its audience to consider its potential permanence.
